Anne is in a relationship to Gilbert Blythe. Gilbert is an older two years than Anne who was forced to drop out of school after his father became in a coma. Gilbert taunted Anne by calling her Carrots during the school's first class meeting. Amybeth McNulty plays Anne, an unwed and orphaned teenager with a history filled with abuse at the orphanages and homes. Anne thirteen-year-old orphan who has lived in a hostile home for much of her childhood is sent by mistake to the aging Cuthbert siblings on Prince Edward Island. They're all very happy when the series ends around 1919. Gilbert has aged to 55, but is still passionately in love with Anne.
